Hello all this is Ray's wife Kim. For those of you who have heard Our
Family (Ray, Kim,Caitlyn(8) and Noah(5)) were involved in a very
serious auto accident. Ok, first off we are all still alive. Ray was
the most serously injured. The kids were the least.

On Aug 1st Ray was driving South bound on Telegraph rd. When we
approached the intersection with Dunbar our light turned green so we
never had to slow down. So when a north bound pickup truck turned west
in front of us !!!!!! Pow!!! If you go to the monroe evening news on
line you can see a photo. That intersection has no lights for turning
safely. Our van was hit head on-left of center. Pushing the engine
under the van accourding to my dad. The dash was pushed into Rays left
leg. The jaws of life were used to free him. He told the EMT who
witnessed the accident that his arm was broken. And he was having
difficulty breathing (He is Asmatic, to add insult to injury.) The
life flighted him to St.Vincents trama center in Toledo. Caitlyn was
life flighted to childrens hospital for abdominal injuries. Though
they turned out to be minimal and she is doing great today at home.
Noah and I were taken in the same ambulance to mercy hosp. Noah went
home with Papa Ray just a few hours later. He was very brave. I just
got out today. I have 4 broken ribs, a fractured sturnum and a broken
right hand (yep I am right handed). This hunt and pecked letter is
hard to write both physically and emotionally.

Ok this letter is about your friend Ray, so here is what I know today.
He is still in ICU at St. Vincents. His mother sits by his bed
talking with him when ever she is allowed. The ICU was full so they
moved him to the ICU burn unit, but don't fret he has no burns except
air bag and seat belt types. He is on a ventalator since he went to
surgery on friday. The surgery was on his right for-arm to plate the
bones. He also had a knee cap replaced, left leg i believe. They keep
him semi-comatos so he will lay still and not pull out his vent. When
they let the drugs wear off a bit yesterday he answered yes/no
questions. Said he was not in pain. They keep assuring him everyone
is ok.

ok i am very tired now, so I will check in later for all the questions
you have. Use my email. kimberlyjlaura@gmail.com.

UPDATE:

Ray is up and breathing on his own. His arm and knee are still broke but his mind is sharp and he enjoys visitors. You can call him on his cell [redacted] or visit from 12:30-8p at St. Vincents

If anyone wants to give Ray a call, PM me and I'll share his number

That's right ladies and gentlemen, I'm finally home!

I just wanted to put up this brief note to let you all know and to say thanks. I am in the process, lllooonnnggg process, of writing up the events and I will post it as soon as it's done.

In short, I am regaining a little of my strength every day, but it's slow going. I look forward to getting caught up and back in touch with you all.

Now, time for another break from the computer chair.

Talk to you soon.

Ray~

I thought it would be best if I just put the write up on my family website and put a link to it in all the forums and lists. That way you'll just get a short note a couple of times rather than the whole big story.

So if you're interested, you can head over to The Accident page and check it out. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Had surgery this morning to remove screw(s) from left knee. All went well. They ended up removing three screws leaving at least one, maybe two. Now I go to bed and sleep off the rest of the anesthesia. (good stuff, by the way.)

Dear friends,

I know it's been several weeks since the last update and there is both good news and bad news. Unfortunately the bad outweighs the good, so I'll give you the good and then get on with explaining the bad.

The pain meds that were fogging up my brain are finally gone and done. And to wrap up the good; therapy on my hand, wrist and arm is going very well.

Now the bad news. Well, this part isn't exactly "bad". It's just that it could be better. Therapy on my knee is not progressing as well as it should be. I *do* have some range of motion back in it, but I should be able to bend it naturally, at least a little, while walking but that isn't happening, yet.

Ok, this is the reason I've been so scarce. About six or seven weeks ago, I started having pain in my bottom. At first I thought it was my tail bone. It started out as an occasional burning pain. I would shift positions in my chair, get up and move around for a minute, or occasionally lay down on the bed on my belly to relieve the discomfort. Then on Saturday, October 11, the pain didn't go away. In fact, it got worse. Much worse.

As most of you know, I have a history of kidney stones and I've passed close to a dozen so far. They say the pain associated with passing a kidney stone is on par with giving birth, I would agree. I also experienced some rather excruciating pain in the accident. However, the pain I felt that Saturday was twenty times worse than the pain from the accident and fifty times worse than kidney stones. It was so bad that I was literally in tears and sobbing and then passed out from the pain and exhaustion. I had taken my pain meds as prescribed and added an extra dose, nothing was touching that pain. Then I was pain free for a few days. But the symptoms did come back and so did the pain, four more times so far. There have been many lesser episodes that don't escalate to such a high pain level but are still painful none the less. When these episodes occur, there is no position I can go to for relief. Well I finally got in to see a gastroenterologist who agreed with my primary doctor. They suspect internal hemorrhoids. So on Tuesday, November 11, I get to have a colonoscopy. They want to go ahead and check for any polyps, lesions or any other abnormalities.

So today has not been a bad day and I've been able to sit at the computer longer than just a couple minutes at a time.

I want to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. You have all been a huge encouragement to me during this whole ordeal and I want you to know I love each and every one of you!

Take care of each other while I'm gone and thanks again!

Ray~

You have my deepest sympathies. My mother spent most of last year being treated for bowel cancer so I am more familiar with than I want to be with most of the procedures you describe.

My thoughts are with you.

Thanks again to all of you, my wonderful friends, for your thoughts and prayers! I just got back from the hospital. The procedure went very smoothly and the doctor confirmed internal hemorrhoids. There were no lesions or polyps! He said continue with the current therapy my primary doctor prescribed and increase my fiber intake. He said that should take care of it. Of course if it doesn't, to go to the ER immediately and they will page him and my primary doctor.

Now I'm going to take a nap. :)

It's a small thing, but it's still progress.

Let me explain; You see, I like to cook. But not having the endurance it takes to stand in the kitchen to prepare a meal, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, is frustrating. Incidentally, this is also the reason I haven't shaved.

But I digress. Today I was able to fix breakfast, (steak, eggs, hash browns and hot chocolate), and only had to sit down once about half way through! Praise the Lord!

I *am* trying to maintain the positive attitude. I know it's all God's timing, not mine. But sometimes it's hard, ya know?

:D

Ray,

Every bit of progress is progress.

Shaving is overrated.

Steak for breakfast? Set a plate for me.

Hi folks! Hope everyone is well.

Had a meeting with our lawyer on Thursday. It was short and went well. Basically, we made sure he had all the correct medical contact information and signed the medical release of information forms. He said it would probably be a few more weeks before the next step, which would be beginning to talk about numbers. And as far as a suit goes, we will wait to see what kind of settlement their insurance company offers first. If it's laughable, then we'll go ahead and file suit. All in all, so far it's been an ok experience with the lawyer.

So yesterday, Friday, I finally got to have lunch with my very good friend! It was great, even though she only *thinks* she talked too much! We went to Vaqueros, a local Mexican restaurant. It's my, and Kim's, favorite place in town. :D It was good to catch up, we really should get together more often.

Well, therapy is coming along. I'm making huge progress with my hand wrist and arm! But rather slow progress with my knee. But at least there *is* progress! Oh more good news, the hemorrhoids are under control so far, yay! But slightly sad news, I need to have the doctor look at my right shoulder. I don't have full range of motion like I should. It's been like this for a while, since the hospital, but I thought it was just a knotted muscle or something that would correct itself. It hasn't. :(

I guess that's about it for now. Talk to you all later and God Bless!

Hi folks. I realized it's been a while, I hope you can forgive me.

Feeling better, much better! Certainly not pain free, though. And I don't expect to be, really. But, things are still moving along slowly, thanks for asking. :)

As for the game, it's still on hold. Physical therapy and doctor's appointments take up almost as much time as if I were working! The therapist and the doctor feel pretty confident that I should be done with them in just a couple of months. We shall see.

So, here's hoping.
