There were times that called for the use of ancient and powerful words, the acknowledgment of humans in a crisis everywhere and everywhen since language was first invented. This was one of them. "Shit." Aurora said.

....the master will appear.

Well, in Amber the reason is simple: Amberites will walk through Shadow to find instructors in whatever they want to learn. This creates pathways that can be followed by other students, allowing them to find their master when they are ready.

But masters can also be students. An Amberite moving from Shadow to Shadow, finding new instructors as they progress, will create a web of connections between experts - connections that those experts can follow, and so learn from one another. Since Amberites typically want "the best" instructors, their own Shadow walking will make these associations more likely, as they will help create the masters the Amberites seek to learn from.

These connections can explain how it is that famous masters can be reputed to have discussed matters despite living centuries apart - they are simply from different Shadows. Thus Laozi (possibly 4th century BC) and Confucius (5th-6th centuries BC) can have their famous meeting.

Finally, these means masters in different fields can consider the state of their art across the multiverse, and take steps to improve it - both directly, or by influencing their Amberite students.
