There were times that called for the use of ancient and powerful words, the acknowledgment of humans in a crisis everywhere and everywhen since language was first invented. This was one of them. "Shit." Aurora said.

...which is a shame because I used to love it. :(

However, for the past two and a half years management has first neglected my section, and then tried to kill it by cutting our funding without noticeably cutting our workload. Finally they merged us with another section (one with which our work has little in common despite appearing to on the surface) and put us under the control of the other section's director: an output-driven, micromanaging control freak who has no idea what our work actually involves.

And now he's attempting to drive out anyone who doesn't fit his ideal of the perfect employee (i.e either a clone of him or a mindless sheep). My immediate supervisor (who I love and is trying to shield her staff from the worst of excesses of management further up the line. Rosa is one of the few good things about my work at the moment) has warned me that I might be the next one in his sights. So I'm desperately looking for work elsewhere so I can jump before I'm pushed.

I so sympathize with you.
My theater has been doing a remodel and the dumn ass vice president of the company has hired a "Yes sir" GM to run the store (with no theater experience also!), while the VP hangs out and micro-manages the store into oblivion.

I've been on the verge of quitting more times that I can count. If only the economy wasn't so trashed, I would have.

How about a swap.
I will hate your corporate idiot for a day, and you can hate mine. :) Maybe the bad Karma will catch up to them with a fresh source.

Bastard micro-managers, how I despise thee!

Let us do our jobs! Grrrrr, poke, poke, poke.

Well, I am formally unemployed as of today.

The dickhead manager of my store finally pressed my buttons hard enough. There comes a point where self-respect is worth more that 8 fucking bucks an hour.

I gave notice two weeks ago, I wondered if he would ask about why, nope, the prick never asked a single question.

I don't think this will directly effect any of my games at the moment, though I might be a little more serious than normal. Give me a month or two and if I can't find a job, things might get ugly. :( No sense dreading any doom yet though, if it comes, it comes.

Things improved slightly after my original post. I got given a project that was actually in line with what my job is supposed to be (i.e. research).

That project is coming to an end so I'll have to wait and see what the new year holds.

OMG! That can happen? Do your acutal job? Impossible! :P

I was supposed to be a movie projectionist.

My boss wanted me to design and make 3d animations and graphic adds for him, to produce a preshow before our movies. He wanted to promote these to use throughout all of the company theaters. I had to learn a 3d software package from scratch and then redesign all the slides he made that look terrible (And he claims to have a Marketing degree.)

All for 8$ hour, while doing my real job at the same time.

Oh he promised, "If you help me, I will vouch that you are good at that kind of thing if you go to a new job."

SCREW YOU, ASSHOLE

Sorry, I'm bitter. I had a great job that prick ruined because he wanted to self-promote himself up in the company.

My sneaking suspicion is that the director gave me the project hoping that I would fail and he would have an excuse to start ineffeciency proceedings against me. He gave me half the time the project actually needed (three months instead of six). But if that was the plan, it backfired because I got the project completed and it got the attention of the higher-ups in the department.

But I'm still planning on finding a better job in the new year.

Anyway, best of luck in your search. One of the (admittedly small) things working in your favour is that cinemas are often a 'bounce' industry, i.e. one that picks up in times of economic downturn.
