Well, the goal was to be a hick kid from town, pristine and perfect in every way, and then pull the rug out from under him so he can have a tremendous fall and be as nasty and cynical and mean as the family expects him to be.

I'm about three-quarters of the way there. Lost innocence is a bitch.

By all that's holy...

That's simultaneously the most cruel and easiest character goal I've ever heard for Amber.

Are you going to eventually change your name to Corwin? :P

There should be a great moment, when Elden realizes he's become exactly what he hates! Then he can begin to fight and claw his out of the black hole he's in.

:)

Or, he can just stay a dark depressed cynical bastard. Just like every other Elder. I hope you don't plan on this road, it's kinda lame.

If Elden goes over to the dark side and you don't plan on trying to redeem him, I hope you do something cool with him.

Maybe your dad could use some help with his plan. I wonder what Elden's going to think when he finds out that Dad's been held prisoner and tortured by someone who's probably in the family!

Just don't turn Elden into Mr. Darkitydark Von Killfuck Soulshitter.

:)

You're expecting Elden to suddenly declare that he is the greatest thing to have ever existed or that ever will exist in the universe? And to try to sleep with his sister?

Hmm. Good points. On second thought, I'll just go for another ride in Shadow, burst into flames and pretend I'm a Brujah at high noon or just get a lethal dose of Bad Stuff.

The Bad Stuff sounds like fun, actually.

Or he could learn magic, bleach his hair and pretend he's Magnus.

How do you set up a poll on this website?

Corwin never said he was the greatest. If you have to say it, then you can't be it. ;P
As for the sister sex, well, Elden has already had sex with his cousin without regret, I say he should just dive in and go for it.

:)

And would Magnus talk like this to Jerry Lee Lewis?

listen man, Magnus was trying to get into Francesca's pants before he even knew who she was. :) Should I condemn him because he's dedicated?

Look what his goal was! More noble than world peace. :D

Persistence may have paid off in the end. If they had been raised together, that would be different. But they weren't and had only Flora's word to go on - and we all know how she lies to her "children's" faces.

Maybe not, but his entire so-called 'memoirs' are dedicated to saying it indirectly.

"Benedict - greatest warrior who ever existed. But I effortlessly defeat him with a childishly simple trick involving a patch of grass."

"Julian - undisputed master of Arden. But I haul him off his horse and humiliate him in his own domain."

Corwin, the Lestat of Amber. :D

Failure to Lose, is most assuredly not the same as an equal chance at doing things. If rescuing Corwin hadn't been in the cards, I doubt that as a GM one of the players would have been given tips from night one that "here is Corwins cell," or "your little dog Toto knows exactly where he is." (just paraphrasing of course).

If a player attends a scenario, and says that it looks great, but tries to chuck it out the window (Magnus did not do this, I'm making a point here), what is the point in the player sitting down to the game? Was it just to destroy the scenario for the other players who wanted that adventure? Or was it a failure of the GM to try to explain what perhaps that player missed? The Point: The GM should reinforce what the paradigm for the game is if he thinks it might help an individual player or the group. Amber has a great way of going in directions never thought of, and often far away from any original story plan. A good GM should try to assist with keeping things on track, hopefully without the use of using Elders as blocking agents or the like. I prefer to talk directly with the players and just tell them, "Hey, have you considered XYZ."

There's just one simple statement, that would end all my complaints.
All you have to say is...

The players choices and efforts are given equal value as the events that occur in canon, no matter the consequence for the character or the story.

Now why would I want to end your complaints? Not that you can fool me into thinking agreeing with you would cause you to stop complaining. :)

A game would be a pretty sad place, if a PC didn't have choices and events impacting it. But why beat a dead horse about something you didn't like, but didn't get a chance to experience?

Just because you couldn't get in the other players pants isn't my fault. :P

I didn't think you would agree with my statement.
You don't have to of course, it's your game to run as you wish.

I should make up a little games master quiz of my own, to make sure the games I join are compatible with my desires. It would have saved me some effort and a pile of character quizzes!

And for getting into pants, I think Magnus was doing perfectly fine with the women he was around. He might not have gotten anywhere before I left, but
looking at the game, obviously the price of a cheap lay was getting set on fire and really bad luck.

I think the idea of giving a Game Master a quiz, if you are unsure of what you are heading into, is a grand idea! Each game I've been in, has quizzes of one sort or another, why not have a Game Master answer questions, and then post them publicly (save the redundancy of answering the same one time and again).

Another great Battlebooze idea!

I think the Game Master quiz idea is fantastic. It doesn't have to be too many questions, except for one game-master I won't mention, who had me fill out so many questionnaires I passed up Tolstoy on word count.

As for the cheap lay part, it was actually the meddling parents who drove Elden into Shadow.

And although she ditched him like a B-17 with all four engines shot off, if Elden ever heard anyone call Aria a cheap lay he would do longsword surgery on them without the benefit of anesthesia.

Hey Cynwyd. You want Elden to hang out with Magnus?

I think I'm gonna have him open a really cool bar out in the Chaos ways. Only the cool kids are invited.

Francesca promised to strip if I can get Gerard to show up. :)

The multi-colored sky spins over my head. What the f... I sit up. One second, Eric was happy that I was going to rescue his daughter and next second here I am, in the middle of nowhere and OUCH!!

I can't seem to shadowwalk back towards the Amber I know. It's like some petulant demigod has denied me access to my home. Surely Eric won't put up with this. Oh. Maybe Corwin killed Eric and took control. That would explain why I'm shut out of Amber.

What's this? Someone left a flyer on my forehead. (Eric Lindross, perhaps?) Francesca stripping? Well shit, I'm on my way to the Courts, I guess.

Well, maybe she won't be stripping.
Sigh.

Sorry sis. Watching you give lap dances to Gerard isn't my kinda thing.

Still, I'm sure Elden and I can find other attractive women here. Maybe Tara will dance for us!

:)
